MIT Economist Shows 20% Savings in Senate Health Reform Bill

November 30, 2009
  • MIT Economist Jonathan Gruber, PhD, presented an important report yesterday on how the Senate health insurance reform bill will reduce costs and improve coverage for Americans.

Based on data from the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office, Gruber determined that insurance exchanges setup under the Senate plan would save individuals and families between $200 and $500 annually on their health insurance. With higher quality benefits in the exchange, that means paying 20 percent less for more coverage. And Americans with low incomes would see even greater savings; between $2,500 and $7,500 as part of premium tax credits.

You can read Gruber's report here or read what they're saying about it in the Washington Post and Politico.
